• Used take-out food containers. These include including pizza boxes and cardboard Chinese food containers. The oil, grease, and other food contaminants make them unsuitable for recycling.
• Plastic grocery bags
• Plastic bottle caps from soda bottles, water bottles, detergent bottles, milk bottles, etc – the bottles themselves can be recycled; the caps or lids can not
• Styrofoam – not only it is completely unrecyclable, but it is also very highly flammable and is very dangerous in recycling facilities
• Pyrex glass
• Window glass
• Mirrors
• Ceramics including crockery and cookware
• Light bulbs and globes
• Spectacles including sunglasses – take these to your local optometrist for donation
• Wire coat hangers – your local dry cleaner may accept for reuse
• Shredded paper (compost this or donate it to a vet or pet store)
• Heavily dyed paper or cardboard
• Electrical goods and cabling
• Batteries
• Nappies and other sanitary items
• Wood
• Clothing and textile materials including sheets and towels
• Food waste
• Gift bows and ribbons
• Motor oil and hazardous waste containers
