Liquid Waste – What You Should Know

Rubbish Removal in Woolooware and other areas is not as simple as just putting stuff in the bin. Some things should be recycled, and other types of waste require specialist handling. Waste types include solid rubbish, organic waste, recyclable rubbish, hazardous waste, and liquid waste. Liquid waste can be either hazardous or non-hazardous.

Liquid waste takes many forms: household liquid waste, industrial liquid waste, commercial liquid waste, stormwater, sullage and sewage. Each needs specific handling.

  • Household Liquid Waste – from cooking and cleaning, eliminated in wastewater from bathroom, kitchen, laundry, etc. May include household cleaning detergents and chemicals.
  • Industrial Liquid Waste – may be hazardous or non-hazardous and arises from industrial activity. It is often wrongly discarded or spilled into nearby water systems and bodies, and it can be alkaline, acidic, or lacquers, or oil or fracking waste.
  • Commercial Liquid Waste – including from cafes, restaurants, and other eateries. Grease is a major component. Commercial premises should have grease traps and other equipment to separate oil from wastewater for proper disposal.
  • Stormwater – related to rainfall, it picks up and carries pollutants into water bodies like creeks, lakes, streams, rivers and the ocean.
  • Sullage – this is grey water – from the kitchen, laundry and bathroom drainage systems.
  • Sewage – from the toilet system – wastewater that has excrement in it.

Know that each form of liquid waste requires certain removal practices.

Never put anything down the drain or into the sewage system that should not go there – including feminine hygiene products, paints, chemicals, and medicines.
