Rubbish Removal in Little Bay: What to do with Hazardous Waste?

While there is no job too big or too small for AA Adonis Rubbish Removals to tackle, we are unable to handle hazardous waste. For hazardous waste or rubbish removal in Little Bay or elsewhere in the southern Sydney suburbs, alternative methods of waste removal must be undertaken.

According to Australian law, hazardous waste is any waste or rubbish that is toxic, ecotoxic, explosive, flammable, poisonous, or an infectious substance. It includes:

  • clinical waste
  • wastes containing asbestos, copper, zinc, lead, mercury, or cadmium
  • waste oils/water
  • hydrocarbon/water
  • emulsions
  • wastes from the production of latex, plastics, glues and adhesives, and resins
  • residues from industrial waste disposal
  • household waste and residue from waste incineration
  • waste resulting from the surface

Hazardous waste must never be places in general waste or recycling bins, and must be kept out of landfill. This is for the safety of humans and the environment.

Councils across metropolitan Sydney facilitate a number of methods of hazardous waste rubbish removal in Little Bay and elsewhere. Some incentives include:

  • Chemical CleanOut – run by the EPA (Environment Protection Authority), this is a drop off day held a few times a year. Household chemicals can be dropped off (find nearest collection point and dates at your local council website). Accepted chemicals include paints, thinners, cleaners, solvents, poisons, pesticides, herbicides, aerosols, motor oils, fluids and fuels, acids and alkalis, car batteries, household batteries, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, fluorescent lamps, smoke alarms, light globes, hobby chemicals, skincare and cosmetics, and pool chemicals. Household quantities only are accepted.
  • E-Waste drop off days are also held periodically by local councils – these allow for drop-off of household batteries, light bulbs, mobile phones, cameras, computers, and other electronic waste.

Many chemicals collected are recycled by specialty companies; others are treated safely prior to being disposed of in an environmentally responsible way.

If you are unsure if an item is suitable for collection by AA Adonis Rubbish Removals, just give us a call and we will answer your questions.
