Rubbish removal Pagewood to Pyrmont, is the responsibility of all of us. We are all constantly being encouraged to consume less, recycle more, and dispose of rubbish and unwanted goods mindfully and responsibly.

There are some things, though, that many people will be surprised to learn that can’t be recycled. Never put the following items in your kerbside recycling bin – instead, contact your local council to determine if there is any other recycling alternative or if they should simply be disposed of with general waste…

  • Take-out food containers, including used pizza boxes and cardboard Chinese food containers – grease and food contaminants preclude them from being recyclable
  • Wet paper
  • Plastic grocery bags (take these to specific bins for reuse at your local supermarket instead)
  • Plastic bottle caps from soda bottles, water bottles, detergent bottles, milk bottles, etc
  • Juice boxes
  • Styrofoam – not only unrecyclable, but highly flammable and dangerous in recycling facilities
  • Used paper napkins, serviettes, paper towels, tissue, toilet paper
  • Paper with lamination
  • Paper with plastic coating (frozen food boxes)
  • Pyrex glass
  • Ceramics
  • Light bulbs
  • Window glass
  • Mirrors
  • Spectacles
  • Wire coat hangers – your local dry cleaner may accept them instead
  • Shredded paper (compost or donate to a vet or pet store instead)
  • Heavily dyed paper or cardboard
  • Electrical goods and cabling
  • Batteries
  • Nappies
  • Wood
  • Clothing and textile materials
  • Food waste – compost suitable food waste instead
  • Gift ribbons and bows
  • Motor oil containers
  • Hazardous waste containers
